A quote I’m pondering
Simplicity is the end result of long, hard work, not the starting point.
Frederick Maitland
An insight from conversation
Whether it’s in the game itself or on the sidelines watching, coaching, supporting, sport is a limited but still useful analogy for life. Because of its constraints, sport can provide an intensity and repetition of experience to accelerate learning.
Outcomes are still important in setting standards and aspirations, but there’s an opportunity to establish values, practice giving and receiving of feedback, dealing with trial and triumph…
What if we could expand our perspective to the longer game? What if we viewed sport as a vehicle for developing great humans? This may be the only way to truly win.
An action I’m taking
It’s ok to want less of something in your life. But it can be hard to change that without knowing what that “less” will mean.
I’ve wanted to reduce how much sugar I eat. One of the key insights that really unlocked that change has been shifting focus. Rather than obsessing over the details of sugar consumption, I’ve focussed on eating more veggies. It reframes the “less sugar” to “more veggies”. One crowds out the other.
So for the things you want less of, what do you want more of?

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.
I hope you have a great week ahead.
With love,
Toby
