Hi there,

Happy Monday!

Here’s your weekly dose of The Monday 3: a quote, an insight and an action I’m taking.

A quote I’m pondering

I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.

Aldous Huxley – Point Counter Point

An insight

Bias for action and drive is a characteristic of many high performers – the urgency to improve, to make change, to get better.

This can be a two-edged sword.

Your drive, your sense of urgency, if overplayed or given too much allowance, can lead to rushed decisions, ambiguous communication and less effective outcomes.

And it often shows up when the stakes feel highest.

Your ability to sit with the discomfort of the urgency, to take a pause in the midst of complexity, to slow down now to go faster later… This is the challenge.

Mindfulness is a critical performance tool in these situations. Not to decrease the urgency, but to recognise the choice in the moment.

With practice you can learn to do this and you’ll be able to align the small, daily, compounding decisions with your long game.

As the saying goes: Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

What do you do to slow down in crux moments?

An action I’m taking

I’m using Past > Present > Future as a three part framework for designing meetings and presentations. This helps create a natural story arc for those involved.

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

With love,

Toby
