Hi there,
Happy Monday!
Here’s your weekly dose of The Monday 3: a quote, an insight and an action I’m taking.
With love,
Toby
A quote I’m pondering
Your job, throughout your entire life, is to disappoint as many people as it takes to avoid disappointing yourself.
Glennon Doyle - Author and activist
An insight
In situations of major change, a big part of the transition is the perceived threat to identity.
If this changes, where does that leave me?
If I am not (my role), who am I?
What will I do now?
This can feel existential especially when that change is around the work you do.
Solely in terms of hours, work constitutes so much of your day that to exit a company, to change jobs or careers or to have your role disrupted by AI all can feel daunting.
Alongside major transitions are the loss of systems and structure provided by organisations as well as the perceived erosion of competence and relevance to personal and professional networks.
It is the fear of all of these things that can hold you back even if the change is positive.
An action I’m taking
In conversation I’m practicing extending silence to elicit depth, space and insight.
Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions, whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.
I hope you have a great week ahead.
With love,
Toby
