Hi there,

Happy Monday!

Here’s your weekly dose of The Monday 3: a quote, an insight and an action I’m taking.

With love,

Toby

A quote I’m pondering

I believe that self love is very important… I don’t trust people who don’t love themselves and tell me, “I love you.” … There is an African saying which is: “Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.”

Maya Angelou – American memoirist, essayist, poet, and civil rights activist.

An insight

There’s an equation for trust developed by Charles H. Green.

Trustworthiness = [Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy (or vulnerability)] / Self-orientation

Credibility: Do they know what they’re talking about?

Reliability: Do they do what they say they’re going to do?

Intimacy (or vulnerability): Do own their mistakes? Do you feel safe with them?

Self-orientation: How much do they focus on themselves in this situation?

Clearly, out of all of the variables, Self-orientation has the outsized impact.

If someone is high on self-orientation, this can wipe out the other variables. And the converse is also true. If they orient to the other person’s needs, they can build trust.

This equation might help to diagnose where trust has gone wrong or right for you.

An action I’m taking

Whether it’s my mind or my kids waking me up, I’ve been struggling to get back to sleep.

I’ve been experimenting with a supplement of magnesium L-Threonate, magnesium Glycinate, L-Theanine and Apigenine. It’s working a treat.

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

With love,

Toby
