A quote I’m pondering

An interviewer asked Kobe Bryant (one of the greatest basketball players of all time):

There are two types of players – those who play to win and those who play not to lose. Which are you?

Kobe responded:

I’m neither. I play to figure something out. I play to learn.

An insight from conversation

Speaking to an Olympic coach last night, we were discussing the differences between little-c coaching and big-C Coaching.

Little-c coaching focusses on development of technical aspects of skills.

Big-C coaching focusses on the development of the person.

Fascination lies in combining the two and seeing sport (or indeed any other discipline) as a vehicle for developing humans.

An action I’m taking

I’m using Dr Andrew Weil’s 4-7-8 breath for a single cycle in transitions in my day – before meetings, stepping back into home, etc. Breathe in for a 4 count, hold for 7 and out for 8. It’s helping me get present for what’s in front of me right now.

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions too.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

With love,

Toby
