Hi there,

Happy Monday!

Here’s your weekly dose of The Monday 3: a quote, an insight and an action I’m taking.

With love,

Toby

A quote I’m pondering

What cannot be spoken to the other, cannot be spoken to the self.

John Bowlby – British psychiatrist and pioneer of attachment theory

An insight

Accumulated intensity may be a useful frame for considering periods of your life in which there was prolonged pressure, demands, performance expectations, scrutiny, pain, or responsibility.

This could come from any number of challenges in sport, work, relationships or health.

It doesn’t matter whether the outcomes were “positive” or “negative”. Your system may not have had the space and time to down-regulate so has accumulated that intensity.

And now after years, your fear tightens around it, seeming to want to control, contain or dam this experience.

Instead, how can you soften to acknowledge it, release it, let it flow?

Because it may not be your enemy after all.

Does this ring true for you? Drop me a line.

An action I’m taking

When I notice accumulated intensity damming in my sternum, I’m putting my hand to my chest.

Not to make it go away but to acknowledge it and make room for it rather than resisting it.

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

With love,

Toby
