We’ve had some intense wind and rain here in Southeast Queensland. There were reports that 300,000 homes were without power at one stage.
For those who’ve been affected, I’m sending you my thoughts and wishing you the best for the clean up and recovery.

A quote I’m pondering
You can’t think your way into right action, but you can act your way into right thinking.

An insight from conversation
How can we act calmly even when we don’t feel calm?
A family I know was flooded in for 3 days. Even though the parents didn’t feel calm they realised the importance of acting calmly for the children.
There’s an important distinction here between feeling calm and acting calmly. We don’t have much control over how we we feel. But, if we can get clear and remind ourselves of what truly matters, we can choose how we act.
- Acknowledge that we don’t feel calm.
- Connect back to the present with a mindful breath.
- Choose how to act by aligning what we do with what matters most.
It’s simple but not easy.
It’s also trainable using the toolkit of psychological flexibility. (You can test your psychological flexibility here.)
An action I’m taking
When I have a lot on my mind, my sleep comes and goes. I’ve been trying a teaspoon of raw honey with a pinch of sea salt 15 mins before bed. Articles and research I’ve read about it indicate that the salt may help reduce cortisol and the sugars from the honey might help to increase the production of melatonin. In my experiment of one (me), it seems to be useful.

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.
I hope you have a great week ahead.
