When I reflected, I realised that it wasn’t a piece of advice that was the most powerful, but an act of kindness.

So I shared the story of a day when I felt least valued, most doubting and closest to giving up on my Olympic dream. That day a senior player, who I admired, gave me 30 seconds of his time and an old national team shirt and told me that he thought I’d earn my own one day. It inspired me for the 6 years to Athens and still does.

I’d not thought of that act as “advice” up until that question, but perhaps it’s acts of kindness that we need more.

I hope you have a great week ahead.
