A quote I’m pondering

You can have anything you want… But not everything you want.

Susan R. Fussell

An insight from conversation

“Control the controllables” was one the most circular, least useful pieces of advice I’d ever heard sprouted by a coach in a pre-game meeting. But in day to day life, there is often talk about control – what is within our control, what is outside of our control.

To me control feels like a reaching out to something external to us.

I’d love to change the language we use to choice – in a set of circumstances, this will be my choice; I choose to move in this direction.

Choice feels more internal, something we can always carry with us.

Given we have such little control of the world around us and such little control of the world inside us, we need to be mindful and remind ourselves that even in challenging, uncertain times we still have a choice.

An action I’m taking

As AI continues to be a hot topic of conversation and self experimentation, I loved seeing the changes in the use cases in 2025 and that people are using AI for self development in a huge way. HBR article: How People Are Really Using Gen AI In 2025

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions whether that’s a favourite quote or something else.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

With love,

Toby
