The Monday 3: 10,000 times, Focus question, 40Hz binaural beats for improved focus and attention

Hi there,

Happy Monday!

Here is your weekly dose of The Monday 3: a quote, an insight and an action I’m taking from the last week.

I’d love you to forward this to one person who might find it useful.

A quote I’m pondering

I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks one time, but I do fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.

Bruce Lee

So what is the one thing I’m practicing 10,000 times?

An insight from conversation

At the start of the year, rather than set goals, I decided to choose practices I want to keep building and finding a coach to help me accelerate progress: practice x coaching. As a part of that I’ve been working with a coach to improve my coaching skills – it’s all a bit meta 🙂

An insight I’ve taken on board is the importance of asking a focussing question a few times through a meeting or coaching session:

  • What are you taking out of this so far?
  • What is one thing you’re taking away from today?

I’ve found it helps crystallise insights and actions in a conversation – often ones I’m not expecting. It also makes it easier to course correct and clarify understanding as we go.

An action I’m taking

I’m enjoying listening to binaural beats while I write or get into deeper more substantial work blocks. There appears to be some science behind 40Hz binaural beats helping with attention and focus.

Right now I’m using this playlist on Spotify.

Is there one of these that really stood out for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions too.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

With love,

Toby
